Animal Spirits

“I have never been interested in taking photographs that exactly replicate animals I come across in their natural habitat, with all their exactly described fur or feathers and skin. Instead, I look for something about an individual animal’s personality or as I perceive looking through a lens. Sometimes I search for a connection between us, or as indigenous people teach, a clue that animals can lead us to a spirit world.

My photographs are glances as animals pass by, or stop and stare at me, and I at them – each of us wondering if should they attack and I run, or should they run and I chase?”
